George Hicks, b. 05-04-1846 in Para Meadow – registered in Dapto. He married Catherine Ann Murphy, 20-05-1880 in Broulee. Catherine was born in 1856 and grew up in in Brandy and Water Creek (in the locality of Figtree – Mount Kembla, south of Wollongong).
George’s brother William was also living in Broulee from the late 1860’s, and then by 1894, George and his family moved to Lismore, like other siblings Richard, Annie, Deborah, Mary Jane, Charles, Thomas, James Alexander and Hamilton Herbert who had moved north to the Lismore-Byron area.

Hi Dianne, My Grandmother on my mother’s side also lived at Federal. The next house down from the old butcher’s shop on the Lismore Rd. I remember my Dad, Neville, who was Granma Lizzie’s son, talking about a cousin that lived on the road towards Bangalow but I don’t remember his name. I believe, though, that his two sons, Ray and Jonny owned a house opposite a mate of mine in Mimosa Rd Geenacre,Sydney. They would have known me as Lance.

Hi George sorry I havent responded before, I only found your response now. The family that you refer to from Federal was mine Ray and John are my brothers. I lived with them in Mimosa Rd Greenacre. My father was Charles Arthur Hicks. His father was William John son of George and Catherine. I now live in Perth. Part of our farm in Federal was bought by Paul Hogan

Hello. I am the granddaughter of Elizabeth A Hicks who married George Arkinstall in 1908. I noticed that the death year for my grandmother is shown as 1996, but it should be 1969. We were unaware that the Hicks lived in Wollongong for a long time. My husband and I lived in Wollongong about 35 years, before retiring to Bonny Hills, near Port Macquarie – strange coincidences! We would love to know more about George and Catherine, if you have information. We knew Minnie, Kate and Albert, but never met Ada.

Hi Margaret Ive just starting doing abit of family history. I am the granddaughter of William John Hicks. I have a memory of your family visiting mine when I was a child on the farm at Federal. And I remember my father talking about Aunty Lizzie. I havent been able to go back much further than Catherine.
