3. Margaret Howe and Her Hicks White Family – References

Margaret Howe had three Hicks children (Sarah Mary, James & Ann) with Richard James Hicks before marrying Thomas White, with whom she had three more children ( Thomas White Jnr, Elizabeth White & John[George] White). Some claim that there may have been another son, William, who died in childhood. Margaret and Richard were ex-convicts and most likely Thomas was too. Click for details of Margaret Howe and her Family Tree – covers her descendants with both Richard James Hicks and Thomas White.

  1. To Robert Herbert – thanks for picking up my blunders – I have emailed you and commenced fixing – and by the way I am delighted to make contact with the President of the Herbert Association. I understand that you have written a book on the Herbert Family – is it still available ? regards
    KAC

  2. Hi Kerry Anne, I have just discovered your blog while researching Sarah Mary Hicks, my Great Great Grandmother. I note in the page “3. Margaret Howe and Her Hicks White Family – References” you have references to John Herbert, my Great Great Great Grandfather and Sarah’s Father-in-law, however, you have the wrong John Herbert. The correct John Herbert arrived on the transport Charlotte not on the Scarborough and thus all the data on John Herbert is incorrect. If you want the correct information for John Herbert contact me via email.
    Regards
    Rob Herbert
President The Herbert Family Association Inc.

  3. Maureen Schmarr says:

Thank you for allowing me to join your family history and sharing your information. I have started to search my husband’s side of the family. Have come to a Mary Ann Herbert married to William Moxham . Married 8 June 1859 at Castlereagh Church in Penrith. Father Joseph Herbert signed her papers as was stated she was under age. Transcription is ref. 1859/2742, this means if she was under age she could not have been your Mary born 1833, although that is the only Mary Ann I can find in NSW BDM index with a father Joseph and mother Sarah M. The witnesses at the wedding were Edward Herbert and Harriet Herbert. I only received the certificate on Dec 24, 2013 and my pc died the next day so am using a laptop until tomorrow.
Will have to contact Hawkesbury Historical Society as I believe they have information in their register. Regards Maureen Schmarr
