Both he and wife Edith died 8 & 9/1/1939 in Western Suburbs Hospital as a result of an accident – knocked down by a car in Croydon in Parramatta Road  – James died first & Edith died a day later – other articles say the reverse that Edith died instantly – her sister was also seriously injured – reported in Tasmania News as well – they were hurled 15 feet by the impact – Launceston Examiner – Sydney Morning Herald

Henry Thomas Hicks was active in local affairs from the 1880’s being elected as an Alderman for the North Illawarra Council in 1887 and 1888, still there in 1889 lobbying for the creation of North Bulli Shire Council with Mr Farraher. Henry did not re-contest the elections in 1891. And Bulli Shire Council would not be formed until 1905. Henry Thomas Hicks was possibly one of the earliest elected political representatives from Thirroul ? And over the years, some of his descendents would follow in his political footsteps.

Sometime after Henry’s death in 1909 and before 1917, Mary Ann moved from the Mt Gilead Farm to Everest in Seaview Terrace – here’s  a link to a photograph of what the area might have looked like around 1917. Below shows a backyard picture of Everest around 1917.

and below shows a view of 1-3 Seaview Terrace Thirroul which is near to or where Everest was
