5 – George Hicks of Lismore

MR. G. HICKS – Obituary – Lismore  Star – December 8 1930 

There was a representative attendance at the funeral in Lismore  of Mr. George Hicks, aged 85, a resident of the district for the past 41 years, who died on Thursday night. Canon Moore conducted the service and the funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. W. Riley and Son. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hicks, of Bulli. For a number of years he was engaged in the timber cutting industry on the South Coast, and came to the Richmond River district in 1889. He was again engaged in the timber industry for five years, then in dairying. He retired in 1911 and lived in Panorama Lane, Lismore, till the time of his death. The late Mr. Hicks is survived by a widow, five sons and five daughters. The sons are Henry Edward (Eumundi,Q.), George Thomas (Tyalgum, Tweed River), Charles Joseph (Tweed Heads),William John (Lillian Rock), Albert Frederick  (Lismore); the daughters are Mesdames P. Sebbens  (Kilkivan,Q.), G. Arkinstall (The Channon), A.Hancock (Sydney), C. McDonough (Casino),  and Miss Kate Hicks (Lismore). One son, Herbert James, died in 1919.”
